"For
instructors, by instructors."
Certification
Credentials are an important element in
many professional service careers - certification demonstrates
competence and builds confidence in the clients we serve.
Certifying & licensing bodies are typically complimented
by a non-profit membership organization that seeks to advance their industry by
supporting its members and holding them to a strict Code of Ethics.
It seems we all agree that doctors, lawyers, accountants,
electricians, and other service professionals should be required to
maintain credentials. Even ski/ride instructors and raft guides
must earn certification, so why not climbing instructors and
mountain guides?
Climbing instructors in the US are not
(always) required to maintain appropriate certification. CCI
believes that standardized training and peer assessment are the way
forward for the climbing industry. If we want to be treated and
paid like professionals, we need to pursue and continually improve the
best credentials. The typical climbing instructor maintains an
AMGA certification and some level of wilderness medicine and CPR.
